See if you can find a Ramsa 4424. It is a mid sized, and weighs some LBS, but I have seen them on ebay for around 800 to 1200, and has the same great sonics as the big stuff. Best of all, so SSL parts will fit it. They have excellent mic pre's, and a whopping +22dB headroom.It sounds like a desk.
The Soundcraft Ghost boards have been going pretty cheap used as well.
