In my humble experience...the Sharp unit outperformed the Sonys' in all classes.

Don't get caught up in brand names.

Sharp makes excellent electronics...Look at their SACD for example.

You normally have a return policy if you buy something you are not pleased with.

I Seldem use MD, but the Sharp unit that I used up against the sony unit I used was more open and detailed, much better. IMHO.
