well, I think you fellas have killed my 4-track Cassette taPE IDEA.AT FIRST I WANT TO GET SOME DECENT MICS, A TUBE PRE-AMP AND SOME GOOD OLD WARM ANALOG...BUT SCREW THAT!
well, now I am considering the following (and would appreciate any comments)...
1) getting 4 mics (one for bass, two for guitars/cymabls, and a dynamic "COIL" based mic for whtever else (maybe vocals?).. getting a mixer to mix 4 channels down to two for my mindisc recorder.
...well firat of all, I want to get into 24 bit / 96 Khz taping....only problem is laptops are expensive to be able to run that kinda bitrate/sampling.
...two, I wanted to have 4 channels of sound so I could later mix it into a stero mix....Id like to be recording 4 channels for future DVDs or so that others can make their own mixes themselves.
...I was even considering buying 2 stero CS recorders..or who knows maybe another sony MD Recorder and making 2 recordings and mxing them...of course If I go with MD (which is nice & crystal), I loose out on 24/96 possibilities from analog sources. I cant say I hate CS tapes. Ive had sound astounding recordings made on 'em.I have looked into ADAT recorders already. most are 16/44.1....which sucks. for the money, I should buy another MD Rec. ...and the ADATs that do 4 tracks at 24/96 are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay expensive.
I was even thinking, I could run a multitrack CS recorder and tap the out puts and mix them line out to line in of the MD Rec. for a crystal sound as a back up.
I have looked into the possibility of a 4-track reel to reel, but they are too bulky & un-poweraBLE @ ROCK SHOWS. It really would be too big & all.
so that's where Im at in my dilema in building a new rig.
Oh, PS, I was planing on using tube-based mic pre amps in the analog rig. any thought?
Thanks for all your help fellas.
