Hi -There were many 'good-sounding' recordings of opera and operatic recital done from the late 1920's onward in mono, and some of these I prefer to certain 'stereo' recodings,
'typically' - how many mikes might have been employed in these classical sessions, and what was their general placement?
Also - not exactly related but an observation - when I see old film footage of FDR, Hitler etc. using public address sytems it seems the microphones were at considerable distance from the user/ranter, even with indoor installations -this amazes me as most modern PA setups have the mikes in close proximity to the person's mouth - I'm going to assume the old PA systems worked and the crowds actually heard some of the content! - can anyone here please elaborate on how well the old systems worked with such great distance from the microphones??
Best regards
Freddy
