Hi:Over the weekend, I acquired some very old ribbon (velocity) microphones manufactured in Denmark by B&O and distributed here in the US by Fen-Tone in the early sixties.
Actually, there were two Model 53's and one Model 50 in the lot.
Last night, I discovered that all three are not working, which came as no big surprise, considering that my total expense of the lot was $75.
They all came to me in original boxes and had accompanying original paperwork. In fact, the Model 53's each had their own original red vinyl carrying pouches.
Now for my question!
I understand that Steven Sank installs RCA type 44-BX ribbons in these microphones and claims that they are wonderful sounding when he does this to them.
My question is to seek the opinion of anyone who in fact, has had this done to old B&O microphones and what their experience has been using them.
No matter what, I still plan to have them updated so they can be used, if not by me, by a future owner.
Your opinions are most appreciated.
Thanks!
