My thoughts are that it is clean enough to use as-is in many audiophile systems. It is not totally transpararent probably due to the garden variety op-amp output buffer/filters, but the benefits of eq seem to offset any negative effects. It also requires careful adjustment and proper knowledge of using eq to get full benefits. But for $200, it's worth that just for the RTA IMO. I think it makes a great platform to tinker with and hope to make a decent DAC out of it for a high end CD based system. The CS4390 DAC is highly regarded by many.
