MK-20 tape for an Akai an MG1212mixer/recorder...

My guitarist just scored an Akai MG1212 (?) 12 track tape machine/mixing board system for a pretty cheap price. He's had me go over all the electronics and they are top shelf, but...
He is currently looking for a tape that is rather like a Beta video cassete called "MK-20" or something like that.
Anybody ever heard of this mystery tape and if its still around (or have a bundle they'd be willing to part with)?
All the local music stores I've tried never heard of it (even the one he bought it from!).
