how to powerup PA @ gig

Pro studio recording equipment and music production/industry.

I would like advice on how to properly powerup gear (in what order )
I am the Drummer ( use elc drums )
The person setting up pa (singer ) has us all plugging iour gear into a furman power conditioner (good idea )
here is the issue -
he says that all gear 9guitar amps, drum amps, etc )should have their power switch set to on -so when he turn on the Furman power source -all amps turn on at the same time .
My argument - is that I have heard not using the on/off switch for electrical equipment the way it was designed can eventually hurt the equipment. To me this equates to not having a power switch and you might as well just pull the power plug when you are donew using the amps.
any thoughts from anyone ?
