If you are more than just a little afraid to attach even a lowly speaker (I have Radio Shack 6 1/2" woofers in my workshop that I use at "victims" when testing any amp), then you might want to consider getting a technician to have a look at it!
Otherwise, get some small speakers like the ones I've mentioned and start at LOW volume, run it for an hour or so, keeping an eye (ear?) openfor weird noises and the like (smoke, etc...). Wait for the unit to get to operating temp before increasing the volume. Don't try to blow the speakers, but an amp should be able to get to a signifigant volume without much problem.
