Many studios I've worked in have this machine.I've never particularly liked the way it sounds, particularly its dynamic performance; sounds like there's a limiter in the chain.
I believe its jitter spec is scary, something over 4000 picoseconds.
I believe you're better off with one of the Sony machines, if you're going to go with DAT, but with all digital tape machines I've experienced (all the way up to the 3/4" U-Matics), be aware the shelf life of the recording is rather limited. For example, a DAT (or U-Matic tape) will have increased errors and a good chance of a least one drop-out (short term mute) once its about 6 months old.
