I'm looking for any advise to help my sound.
Background: Live Band PA, Small-Mid size Clubs

Signal Chain:
Mackie Mixer - Alesis MEQ230 - BBE462 - Mackie 1400i - Yamaha SI15IV's
I have an Alesis Q2 effects Aux'd in to the Mackie.

I have a bit of hum. Everything is racked so the grounds are common.
I'm wondering if I am causing problems by not using balanced connections. The Mackie has Balanced outs but the EQ doesn't have balanced in's. How much is to be gained by getting an EQ w/balanced in/outs and a BBE862 with balanced in/outs. so that the whole mixer to amp chain is balanced. Is balancing short cable runs important?
