Hello there! It's been a long time since I posted my question here, (with a difference, that now I posess even a username;) and now is the right time to add onother one. In a past few months I've been looking after a decent monitor for my bedroom "studio". I've heard ATC SCM20 (they're blilliant, but "rather" expensive), Genelec 1030A's (very nice, but lacking the low end) and Dynaudiocoustics BM6A (good, but too expensive for my limited budget). And I've heard Alesis Monitor1, the passive version. They are definitely in the price range I can afford, but they seem to have a problem. I'm not qualified to go into "technicalities", all I want tell you is based on the judgement of my ear. So: I found them to be a little too "boomy". They are capable of producing some very low bass sounds (which amazed me; hearing such a deep low end coming from such little monitors), but in my opinion, the bass was not well defined - in a sense that almost every bass sound on them appeared to me in the way as those instruments, recorded with a help of dbx's bass syntesizer (remember?), if you know what I mean. For me, it seemed that the low end resonated without being controllled (I know it is not a professional jargo, but I hope it gives you a "picture" of what I've heard). It was not the quilt of the room (they were mounted on top of the mixing desk and centered precisely to what the manual said and in acoustically well treated room, floated and all that). So, this was the only thing (and of course my major consern) and that's why I didn't rush to buy them. Now here is a question. I've hard that there is an active version of Monitor 1 for some time on the market, with the range from 23 - 22.000 Hz (which is the range I definitely would need, since I am producing a lot of work using my own synthesizer amd some SFX librarise at home - I need to know EXACTLY what's going on in the low end (the pads and stuff)). And the big news is, that (at least some claim so) they have much more controlled low end and are therefore much more accurate.
So (finally); did anyone have any experience with these monitors, does anyone use them, any suggestions, hints; is it worthy buying them, are they "the real" monitoring solution ar just a product that Alesis had made to shout out that they entered also in a field of monitoring as well. Please, let me know your echoes, 'cos they seeme to be about the only choice that's left to me (for the money I have, of course).
Yeah, I know; long and messy message, but I'd really appreciate if someone responded. Thanks!!!
