I am old school but my fantasy has been composing music via software. I haven't paid much attention to technical innovations in this area so forgive me if my question is naive. I've heard that Pro-Tools is the way to go but I don't want to spend $600 + just to get started. I would just get a Mac but it's a lot of money just to get one program.
Also, do you use these programs with a box that converts digital output to analog to feed amps? Thanks for any advice!
