JBL (pretty decent speaker company) makes some really inexpensive compact 2-way speakers. i have seen them mostly outdoors in places like bush gardens in Florida (where it rains quite a bit).
the series called control pro.
they run around 100 dollars each but you have to buy amps for them.
OR... you could get the powered version (control p2) which have the amps built into the speaker box... this version is around 200 dollars (u.s. that is). pretty cost effective.
if you don't want to get JBLs I'm sure Makie and QSC make a similar version of that idea...
keep in mind this type of system isn't going to be the best sound quality in the world, but they will last outdoors. (especially if you put them under something to protect them and don't shoot at them with your paintball guns).
How big is the area you are trying to apply sound to?
how much are you looking to spend?
how much quality (definition and power) do you want?
