Re: Anyone using a RAID ethernet server?

I use a Raid setup on my Linux server, but not for the music storage for my Squeezebox based system.

Raid is a very useful redundancy for a system that needs to be up 24/7 but seems excessive to me for music which is more of a periodic demand situation.

I use an external USB drive for music backup.

A Raid array will not save you from many events. For example, if your system is stolen, or suffers a complete fatal crash (for example, the motherboard's controller circuits corrupts both drives) or any number of other scenarios. So even a Raid system needs an external backup. Given that you need an external backup anyway for music, a Raid for music seems a bit too much for the music storage side of things.
