I am so sorry to hear of your wife's sudden passing. When my mother died my father lived alone in the house for a while. Unfortunately, in his case he wasn't taking care of himself with proper meals, laundry, meds, etc. He loved the assisted living facility where he met new friends and the "house cleaning service" took care of his place including the laundry. He would have meals with his new friends or on lazy days have it delivered to his room.
Regardless of internet provider I'm sure you can run a couple Ethernet jumper cables within your own room(s) if needed. Otherwise Wifi should be fine unless your apartment is huge.
Unless cost is an issue I would have the facility or internet provider set you up. You would have to work with them anyway to get your own equipment 'provisioned' and authorized onto their servic.
