As a further FYI... I'm currently using a repurposed Windows business computer w I7(gen 5 maybe??) 8Gigs RAM and SS drive. A Synology NAS and 6TB drive to BU the NAS.
I use it for two purposes: ROON server and streaming video's.
It seems to work OK but Windows is a PIA wit all it's updates, Bing pushing etc., etc.. I have my business Computer guy set it up and manage it as it's way too picky and complicated for me to handle. Thre was no way I could ever get the portals set up w the NAS and Router for ROON ARC... it took him over 2 hours and he's a full time computer tech.
SO... I keep thinking if it's a ROON product things get easier and maybe even sound better. But as Abe's comments below suggest it just doesn't make sense. $4K vs $400??
I gave up on Apple years ago cause ITunes abandoned the users w thier own library and ROON was better... no contest there. The two MAC Mini's I had also became obsolete. SO... now I'm thinking about MAC Mini's again but in no hurry because what I'm using now is functioning OK.
