Its been so long since I set up hysolid that I forgot about the app. Hysolid is predicated on tablet/ phone control so that app is just to control it, so yep you can't put it on your mac book or a windows desk top. There is a program that runs as a service on windows and points to the music files and configures the output to the dac, but the control interface is that app you saw. Said another way, you can't control it from a windows/ mac desktop, because its all about soundquality and offloading the art/ playback interface to an app helps.

Its a solid point about the family involved. Its just me and my audio so I can get by with something like hysold, but I can see where a solution like Roon would be worth it if you had a family involved, which I assume includes multiple streaming services or collections, multiple rooms, etc.
