RE: LMS updated to RPi5 from RPi4

Lets get some things straight.

Raspberry Pi OS was introduced around mid 2020. It remained in Beta until
end of 22. Main driver was to go for an 64 bit OS. It's not new as you suggest.

Much more of a subject was the rather recent switch to the Debian Bookworm release last fall. This brought quite some changes to the table. E.g. The
entire network stack changed (NetworkManager)

And on top of the Bookworm release came the RPi5. The RPi5 demanded major
changes to the kernel. The kernel is the key part of any OS. And the kernel
work is still work-in-progress. Basically every week we still experience impactful updates on the kernel side. I just finished a project with the kernel folks over there that ran for 3 weeks to get the Allo drivers working on the Pi5. For all the RPI Audio OS maintainers out there it's still a tough job
to keep aligned to the developments. I'd say around Q3/24 RPi5 operation
should get into the clear.

When it comes to temperatures. Under idle conditions PI4 and PI5 consume the same power. Temperatures remain rather low. That changes when running under higher load conditions. The PI5 can run a much higher clock. All in all the PI5 needs a better cooling. That's why the foundation recommends to go active on that part. You can also find passive cooling cases which perform great.

LMS

As a hint, and that's known for a long time, going with the LMS-nightlies is the way to work with LMS. These nightlies are not considered "unstable". In my experience it's rather the other way around. And you just experienced this as well.

PS

All my RPi4 power supplies are more than sufficient to run my RPi5. You simply need to look at the addon-loads you attach to it. You simply need to do the math. E.g. With USB-SSD or NVME attached and a DAC HAT on top my PI5 works well
with an Allo Shanti @2400MHz.

I do think that the RPi5 is a great device. Not a single day I am looking back
to my RPi4 times.

Enjoy.
