It might be a couple of things - maybe the SPDIF HAT and your DAC aren't playing together nicely. Maybe JRiver is the real culprit.

Can you try connecting the Pi to your DAC using USB? Another suggestion would be to make the same playlist on Volumio and see if the problem persists.
