RE: JRiver; RAM, laptop speed.

Run JRiver on a RPI-4 with 4Meg or for $25 more the RPi-5. You will have to purchase a new license for the Linux version and you might as well upgrade to the V31. Put your files on an SSD and live the good life. I am using v23 and I don't think the "newer" version of JRiver sound any better - most of the updates have been to the features.
BTW I like to keep my cars for 15 years+ and I am glad to see that you feel the same way about your computer hw and sw :)
PS Have you tried ebay for the memory chip.
