Home Computer Audio Asylum

Music servers and other computer based digital audio technologies.

It's great, welcome back.

I have been doing PC audio since the mid 90's. I have had a system of some sort connected to my PC since that time.

PC audio has come so far that I have now brought my main system to my PC and connect them digitally with an external DAC. I don't even have a CD player hooked up anymore, I just play digital files or pop the CD into my CDrom and play using digital extraction. The sound is better than my old NAD cd changer, I love it. I built my PC into an Antec p180 tower case with acoustically dampened panels and I run all my fans at half voltage so the whole thing is whisper quiet.

I have a set of PSB monitors for nearfield listening while I am at my computer and I can switch the audio over to my PSB towers to fill the room with music or to watch movies (also using my PC w/ s-video for connection to my TV).

Maybe if I had a larger place, I could see myself treating CDs like people have treated vinyl, collecting them, playing them in an uber expensive player in a dedicated listening room... you know the typical audiophile dream setup... but for now, when my livingroom needs to be my computer room, my listening room, and my TV room... my computer can pretty much do it all while sounding good to boot.
