Your results don't suprise me at all.I used to use EAC and do a test and copy both in secure mode ie that was 4 secure reads of the CD! Average of 20 minutes per CD. Then I read many people including the author of EAC used burst mode for ripping and would only re-rip in secure mode if the CRCs between the test and copy were different. I did the same. But paranoid me had to compare the checksum of this faster method over my slower way. Guess What? Identical checksums. Bit for Bit the exact same file.
Then I purchased a Plexor Premium drive and used PlexTools that uses hardware checksum/CRC for ensuring a secure rip. Compared 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x to each other and EAC. Guess What? Identical checksums. Bit for Bit the exact same file.
I personally beleive now, that any decent modern drive with CDs in good condition will give you a good rip. Folks like us are a little paranoid... I still rip using PlexTools in secure mode though. But it only takes 2-3 minutes per CD so who cares :)
