While Vista has no kmixer it does have a differently named component for the same purpose and thid=s component does also alter the bit stream. However the fidelity of that mixer is much improved so the sound for WMP11 is potentially better in Vista.In addition Vista offers a series of DSP enhancements for time alignment, room correction, etc. which can provide additonal benefit dependingon your environment.
If you use a different player that bypasses these components the sound will be identical.
