Is there such a thing as 24bit FLAC?

I posted this over in Digital Drive - then realized it should go here.

If I record some analog recording into a 24 bit wav file, how does FLAC handle the conversion? Does it reduce it to 16 bits before saving to FLAC? or does it create a hi-res FLAC file?
