Is the SB successfully getting an IP address through DHCP? If so, that means it's on your network, which is the first step.

Probably the most common problem is a firewall issue on the PC. I belive the SlimServer setup opens the required ports in the Windows XP firewall, but if you're running Norton or some other software you may have to open the ports yourself. Easiest way to tell is to completely disable all firewall software on the PC and see if it makes a difference. If so, start it back up and figure out how to configure it for SlimServer. You need to allow traffic on port 9000 (TCP only) and port 3483 (TCP and UDP).

You might try the Slim Devices forum. This is a common problem when first setting up a Squeezebox.
