Re: Why is the system volume still used when the SPDIF is used?

Cause MS Operation Systems while using the Intel AC97 standard does not provide the same signal out that comes into it from a ripped audio file. Therefore it does not matter what you do to the signal it is already changed quite a bit from what you start with, a simple digital 44.1 kHz 16 bit CD audio file. Why worry about the volume when it is not longer what was recorded? Fractional upsampling is not pretty; that is, upsampling from 44.1 to 48 which is the output of the AC97 codex. Again if you are going to use your on-board sound chip and intel codex your are hosed.

I don't know much but what little I do know is you are going to have to work with an external USB/Firewire device or a different sound card if you can fit one into your new computer to get a true SPDIF signal out of your computer.
