I haven't compared the stock power supply with the upgraded 4Xac, but I'll bet it is a nice upgrade for the money.NOS tubes are pretty cheap to try out if you don't get out hand. I bought a used Bugle Boy from Doug's Tubes (http://www.dougstubes.com/6dj8.htm). The Amperex Orange Globe is supposed to be the best 6DJ8 for the Scott Nixon DAC (search the Asylum to find out the perferred versions of the Orange Globe), but I'm happy with the used Bugle Boy and it is very cheap at $15 from Doug's Tubes. The Bugle Boy results in a warmer, tubey sound, which is very musical and engaging, especially listening to acoustic music or rock. I also bought a new JJ tube for $10, but I haven't spent much time with it yet to get a sense of whether it is much better than the stock tube.
Did you get any improvements from burn-in on the USTD? I've had it for about a week and it has burned in for about 50-75 hours. It sounds great with no burn-in, but I'm curious what I have to look forward to.
Mark
