$2,000 CD player or DAW?

My CD player is the week link in my stereo right now.
Should I spend $2,000 on a new player, or should I consider using a computer to play back my CD's?
I figure that if the computer is playing the CD's back from the hard drive (and an EMU soundcard) that I might not need that high-end CD player.
What am I missing?
