I can't speak to the XP issue, but (at the risk of being obvious) if you go into Preferences in iTunes and select the Advanced panel under General you can specify which drive iTunes will look at for the Library. Be sure to check the two boxes immediately below it: Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized and Copy Files to iTunes Music Folder.
