Not really,Many people do use the Apple lossless, though not sure if Itunes ripping is a true bit for bit perfect copy.
I actually use EAC but in burst mode when I had to do 250+ discs!! cause like you, I can't wait that long (mine take around 9 minutes in secure mode - I seem to have the checksums matching though so I'm not really worried about being that perfect. Any new cd's I purchase, I use secure mode.
I would think it's more important what else is in your system for the overall sound.
