Rip all of your CDs in Lossless and store them on an external hard disk. Rotate them on the iPod according to your taste of the day.

If you have decent to good headphones, you'll see a big difference. I'm listening to my iPod with Sennheiser HD-600 and the difference between Lossless and AAC is rather big.

If you really want to put all of your CDs on the iPod, just "recopy" your Lossless library into AAC. It doesn't take long and will alow you to keep your Lossless library.
