I had the same problem as you for a while. CD-Rs I recorded were unreliable in the car. They would sometimes play for a while, but then they would skip. For a given CD-R, the problem seemed to get worse with time.Turns out I had recorded these at the fastest rate my burner supports (48x-52x). Then I changed things and began burning them at the slowest rate my burner supports (which is 8x). Ever since I started doing that, my problem disappeared. You might try it. Worked for me.
