Thanks! That sounds about right - except that the files that went missing after being "fixed" have worked fine for months. They showed up in ITunes, Foobar, Winamp, and on my Roku Soundbridge. I had not been doing any editing or renaming of files. No metadata was there because they were mostly .wav's.When I clicked on a folder on that drive, one of three things happened (prior to chkdsk): 1. It opened the folder normally. 2. After a long wait, I got an "I/O error" for the device, or 3. It just did nothing after a long pause. On the folders that got stuck there'd be a song or two within a folder of that folder that went missing after chkdsk. But, now all the folders open. It's an ultra-ata drive, so I doubt there was a bottleneck of data causing it and that would not explain the damaged files?
I'm going to replace this drive. I hope it's not a software problem. I doubt it's ITunes. It can't be that buggy, can it?
