Stick with Apple lossless if you've already made the time investment in ripping to that format. If you have an urgent need to switch later, you can batch re-encode to whatever else you want later (let it run overnight.) That's the beauty of lossless compression, you can change formats with no loss of quality.As for the slow adoption of new hardware, I think it's more a factor of these companies scared of being sued by the RIAA/BME/MPAA/etc than anything else. Any product that gives consumers more options and control over the media they buy gives these organizations the willies, as their ultimate goal is a licensing scheme for media, where you don't own anything, but rent it on a weekly/monthly/daily fee.
