foobar2000 is the best choice if you want to bypass kmixer right now, at least it's the most flexible with it's output options. Winamp also has ASIO and kernel streaming plugins available, though they are a bit buggy.

You have an odd definition of software quality, then. Of Winamp, foobar2000, and WMP, iTunes is the only software I haven't had crash on me when doing simple, everyday tasks. I've managed to crash WMP playing back a WAV file, for pete's sake. Granted, it was a corrupt WAV file, but crashing from standard file input? That's easy enough to check for, and not doing so is just sloppy programming.
