On compatibility, just make sure that the input impedance of the McCormack is high enough to be driven properly by the MP3. Chances are that this will not be a problem, however.Re "teflon" caps vs V-caps. V-caps ARE teflon caps; they are just a brand name. The other major player in that market is REL. I use REL teflon caps all the time; they are my favorites. I presume your unit already is fitted with REL brand Teflon caps. Both brands are expensive and well made, so it is not as if you are exchanging a cheap or second rate product for a first rate one. I have never tried the V-caps. There may be a smidgeon of sonic difference between the two brands, but it's a matter of your own judgment whether you want to spend the money. I suggest you use and enjoy your preamp as is for a while and get used to the sound before spending bigger bucks to tweak capacitors. Same goes for Black Gates, which I presume you know are electrolytic caps to be used in the power supply, not a sub or alternative for teflon film caps used in the audio circuit. The regulated power supply OTOH is a major upgrade and I say go for it in the here and now.
