Is what causes loss of output power, higher output impedance and increased distortion.

If the load is benign this usually takes a long time. We had one customer who ran his amps (MA-1s) about 50,000 hours (7 years in his case) without any measurable loss. His speakers were easy to drive so he never pushed the amps hard.
