Hi Gang,
Which current production 6AS7G's are known to be of excellent construction and reliability..? I tried the Chinese and they suck..the Sovtek (at $50 a pop from tubedepot) are of better construction but I got 2 tubes that are not 100% efficient. Svetlanas are available from TheTubeStore but I'm worried now. I found some NOS ones (Sylvania, GE etc.,) very cheap in comparison but still wonder on how they might fare in comparison.
Only with the Sovteks I noticed a blue halo inside the glass (B+ engaged)which I assume is a sign of a healthy tube. Is this normal ? The Chinese ones didn't have this and wouldn't respond well with the biasing meter on the S-30.
I also noticed some Golden Dragons available, made in China but to strict UK specs etc..are these any good?
Sonically, which brands are better or more 'musical'..?
Appreciate any input here as I'm getting desperate..:-)!
