Tube rectifiers cannot handle the current that an OTL output section will require to drive a real-world speaker. In the case of Atma-Sphere, reliability is paramount to the design so semi-conductor rectifiers are employed in the driver supply as well. HEXFREDs are used for low noise. A tube rectifier would require a higher power supply voltage and if the tube were the one running the negative supply, would be blowing fuses if it failed as the power tubes obtain their bias from the driver power supply.
