Driver supply transformer

0

My MA-1s, that I built eight years ago, are completely silent through the speakers. The
transformers themselves make a little mechanical noise.

I once had Berning EA2-150 power amps, that had a low-level buzz in the output, probably
similar to yours. I demonstrated the origin of this by simply wiring up a temporary D-cell
battery supply for the filaments of the voltage gain and driver tubes. The buzz went away.

A possible cause of your problem is coupling of rectifier noise from the high voltage
windings of the driver supply transformer to the filament winding and then through the
heater-cathode parasitic capacitance of the voltage gain and/or driver tubes.

From your post, it sounds like you have the skills to repeat my experiment on your amp.

Good luck!
