Hi Michael.I'm no expert, but I have some experience with a lively room. The slap-echo was severe.
Unfortunately, small panels are not going to help much. Drapes over the windows, a thick
carpet on the floor, and absorbing wall hangings or acoustic panels covering substantial
reflective areas are necessary to tame it. Lots of cushy furniture helps. Jon Risch, who
moderates the Cable Asylum part of the Audio Asylum has some good advice: you might
want to visit there and do some searches, or contact Jon directly. My other advice is to stay away from polyurethane foam for extensive wall treatments. This
stuff is flammable and gives off toxic gases in the event of a house fire. It is what led to the
Rhode Island nightclub disaster. Sonex makes panels from a Class A-rated melamine foam.
These are called their 'classic' line (unfortunately, they also make urethane foam versions)
and cost more, but how much is safety worth?-Al
