Re: Cap upgrade for my M60 and MP3

The best bang for the buck is to replace the coupling caps. In the M60 there is only one pair of coupling caps, between the input voltage amplifier stage and the driver stage. The value is probably anyhwere from 0.1 to 0.47 uF. You need two per channel, because you need one each for the positive and negative phases of the signal in the balanced circuit. You should be able to identify the cap by visual inspection; if you cannot identify it you might reconsider doing the work yourself and ask someone else to do it. In the MP3, you have coupling caps between the phono stage and the line stage (0.47uF in my MP1) and between the line stage dual-differential amplifier and the circlotron output stage (0.22uF in the MP1). All the same caveats apply as per above. Remember, tube gear operates at lethal high voltages. A good technique is to keep one hand in your pocket at all times, if the power supply caps are not fully discharged. Personally, I would not bother with the caps you mentioned; teflon caps are the way to go, either the ones made by REL, by V-cap, or in Russia (cheapest and available on eBay but only in low values).
