Have not tried 988 but have had 989 with M60 for 2.5 years. As posted before, M60s mate with 989 very well. Zeros make the combination even better. Had a friend's AI-3A in the system for a month. In my system, AI-3 added some nice richness to CD source but too much a good thing to analog compared to Stevens-Billingto TX 102 based TVC and Caddack resistor based passive control. Hope that helps.
