If I may say so, you are missing the point. The MP3 affords the opportunity to process the signal from front end components in balanced mode and then feed it to an amplifier in balanced mode. True, the MP3 will not convert a single-ended signal to a balanced one, but on the other hand it certainly will not and cannot "degrade" the output of a single-ended source. In addition, the connections necessary (RCA out to XLR in) are no big deal to achieve, and running the output of an RCA jack to the input using an XLR connector also does nothing per se to "degrade" sound quality.
