Your post suggests that you use 600-ohm resistors between pins 2 and 1 and between pins 3 and 1. Thus your MP3 is looking into a 1200-ohm load. Is this correct? If so, have you or anyone else experimented with other loads lower than the 200K-ohm "high impedance" load seen with balanced connection? In other words, if 1200 ohms sounds better than 600 ohms, what about 2400 ohms, etc? I wonder whether your observation that 1200 ohms sounds better than 600 ohms, for the MP3/M60 combo, relates in any way to the fact that the MP3 will have a slightly higher output Z compared to an MP1.
