Al, I have not heard any of the Magnepan products for ages, but I always suspected that because of their relatively low impedance, flat impedance curve, and resistive nature, they were relatively better suited for transistor amps than for tube amps. Now in the age of the Zeros, tube amps can deal with them on an equal footing with ss amps. The Innersound amp was explicitly designed and built in order to drive ESL speakers, however. It would be enlightening to learn the outcome if you were to lend your MA1s to the fellow with the Innersound speakers, for comparison to the Innersound amplifier. I had the opportunity to audition the Innersound amplifier at the home of a friend who has owned the same pair of Acoustat ESLs for at least a decade, so I am very familiar with the "sound" of his system using his favored Berning amps. (He's owned them all, up to and including his current pair of bridged monoblock ZH270s.) The Innersound acquitted itself well in that system for a while, but it is now back in the closet, displaced the Berning amps (very admittedly representing a much larger investment of capital). Your tips on chassis dampening might merit a re-assessment of the Innersound vs the Berning amps.
