Re: Using a step-transformer with MP-3

I was having problems with hum and noise, but mostly hum with a single-ended Klyne SK-1 and Koetsu Onyx. My techie friend decided the MC step-up needed to be balanced and voila!, he turned a single-ended Signet MK10T into balanced. Hum totally gone, noise so low I have to turn up the volume on the MP-3 WAAY past where I could listen in order to hear anything but silence. Eleven on the volume control is as loud as I need to play records. Sound... still evaluating, it's darker than the Klyne but I was still fiddling with the settings on the Klyne which was a bit bright, but still too hummy and noisy. I don't know what the output on the Onyx is but I'm thinking .3uv or below. I'll bet I could even use one of those teensy output Ortofons if I wanted to without noise.
