Hi All,
I'm not a slacker, I have read the below thread and researched the archives for similar problems but I still have a few questions and desire some opinions. I bought these amps used from a reputable seller. They were "factory made but modified" (upgraded was the specific language). I was told they were in use until about a month ago. I finally got them setup and hooked to my nominal 16 ohm speakers. I turned the left switch (filament heater?) on and waited about an hour. BTW these were all used tubes and all tubes went into the exact location as from the last use. No signal was being fed to the amps. After the tubes had stabilized ( from my perspective, they were no longer heating up anymore and were basically silent) I switched on the right switch on one amp. All good. The next amp gave a pop and a flash from the right bank of output tubes. I Immediately turned off the right side switch and visually checked for obvious dammage. There was no speaker pop. After a while, I turned the right switch back on and nothing out of the ordinary occurred. I played some music about 5 minutes later and they played fine, with no discernable difference in either sound quality or out put. What should I think of these events and what are your thoughts as to what I should do from here? Any and all suggestions, thoughts and comments greatly appreciated.
Jack
PS my amps speaker outputs are solid copper and not colorized. Am I correct in assuming the positive output terminal is closer to the bias test terminal? TIA
