I don't recommend that you do it, but you COULD install a 9-pin mini socket in a hole cut for an octal one. Bottlehead sells an aluminum template for just that purpose. But you are probably better off with the 6SN7, if you have anything less than an MA2 amplifier, because it would be tough to deliver enough current to the 6900 in any of the smaller amps, for optimum performance and adequate gain.
